TEHRAN - Iran’s first domestically manufactured wheeled 155-mm self-propelled howitzer was unveiled in Tehran on Sunday.
“The 155-mm self-propelled howitzer has been designed and manufactured by the Defense Industries Organization’s creative and innovative experts with the aim of increasing the mobility of artillery units of the Iranian armed forces,” Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said in a speech at the unveiling ceremony, which was held at the Defense Industries Organization of the Iranian Defense Ministry.Increased mobility, enhanced maneuverability, longer firing range, a higher rate of fire, and lower production costs in comparison with the tracked self-propelled howitzers are the distinguishing features of this artillery gun, Vahidi stated.
He went on to say that maintaining and repairing the new howitzer is also easier and cheaper.
In the near future, this artillery gun will be mass-produced and delivered to the artillery units of the Iranian armed forces in order to enable them to carry out their operations more smoothly and efficiently, in a shorter time, and with smaller crews, he added.
