TEHRAN - The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said that the Islamic awakening occurring in the region has driven the United States to desperation.
SNSC Secretary Saeed Jalili made the remarks in Tehran on Friday in reference to U.S. President Barack Obama’s foreign policy speech on Thursday.“Desperation, contradiction, and deception are evident in Obama’s statements,” Jalili said.
He added, “The Islamic awakening has driven the U.S. to desperation. The United States is the main loser in regional developments, is stuck in the quagmire of years of support for the Zionist regime and dictatorial governments like those of (former Tunisian president Zine El Abidine) Ben Ali and (former Egyptian president Hosni) Mubarak, and cannot find a way out through making contradictory remarks and practicing deception.”
“Now it has become clear that the strategic policies of the United States over the past seven decades have run contrary to the interests and causes of regional nations,” Jalili observed.
He also said, “The fact that Obama put down a clear marker on his support for the Jewish government indicates the racist nature of U.S. policies.”
The U.S. must be aware that all the occupied territories belong to the Palestinians, Jalili asserted.
During his speech, Obama said, “For the Palestinians, efforts to delegitimize Israel will end in failure. Symbolic actions to isolate Israel at the United Nations in September won’t create an independent state. Palestinian leaders will not achieve peace or prosperity if Hamas insists on a path of terror and rejection. And Palestinians will never realize their independence by denying the right of Israel to exist.”
