TEHRAN – An exhibition displaying works from old styles of Persian calligraphy is currently underway at Tehran’s Ketab-e Shahr Gallery.
The exhibition entitled “From Quran to Ramadan” presents 116 calligraphy works of verses from the Holy Quran, curator Keivan Shojaei told the Persian service of FARS on Monday.“Most of the calligraphers have made use of nastaliq style calligraphy in inscribing verses of the Quran in their tableaus after the Qajar and early Pahlavi eras, therefore this exhibit helps revive the traditional Iranian calligraphy style of inscription,” he explained.
The exhibit has been divided into two sections, each dedicated to specific styles of calligraphy inscriptions such as thuluth, naskh and rayhan.
A team of artists have also worked on the illumination of the tableaus over the past two years, Shojaei added.
The exhibit will be running until the end of Ramadan at the gallery located on the first floor of the Milad Tower.
