TEHRAN – Fakhreddin Fakhreddini, the Iranian photographer who is mostly known for his black and white collection on celebrated literati and artists, is hanging a series of his paintings and photos in an exhibition entitled “Delight of a Glance” at Tehran’s Shokuh Gallery.

His photo collection features rarely-seen portraits of filmmakers Bahman Farmanara, Asghar Farhadi and Khosrow Sinai, and artists Parviz Kalantari, Mohammad Ehsai and Ebrahim Haqiqi.

“I have taken most of the photos on show over the past two years in black and white, since I believe black and white photos last longer,” Fakhreddini said at the opening ceremony on Friday.

“My collection of portraits includes 86 photos, 21 of which are on display here. They also contain portraits of successful women of Iran such as Rakhshan Bani-Eemad, Pari Saberi and Simin Behbahani,” he added.

“My oil paintings look realistic and reflect nature and landscapes of different cities in Iran,” he noted.

“Iran’s nature is very beautiful and I wanted to portray this beauty in my works. I also choose still life for my paintings as well,” he explained.

On choosing the celebrities for the photos, he said, “Strangers are not interesting for people to watch and that is why I choose celebrities to display their character and give the visitors a chance to get to know more about their character.”

The 83-year old artist is known to be one of the pioneers of portrait photography. His exhibit will be running until December 13 at the gallery located at 19 Amir Nuri Alley, North Salimi St. near Andarzgu Blvd.
