TEHRAN -- An English version of “Man of Iron Will”, which comprises a selection of memoirs of martyr Mostafa Chamran, has recently been published in Tehran.

 

The book, which also contains a short biography of Chamran, has been compiled by the Indian scholar Ghulam Hussain Mattoo.

 

Indian author and translator Mir Mohammad Ibrahim has translated the book which was released by the Shahed Publications.

 

The 187-page book contains the strife of Chamran during the reign of Iran’s former monarch Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and his courage and his beliefs in the divine teachings.

 

Born in 1932 in Tehran, Chamran began his activities at age 15 with Islamic associations and attended lectures on logic and philosophy by the martyred Morteza Motahhari.

 

At the time of the victory of the Islamic Revolution under the leadership of Imam Khomeini, Chamran returned to Iran. He was deputy prime minister for revolutionary affairs and was later appointed minister of defense.

 

At the time of the Iraqi invasion, he went to Ahvaz, fought bravely and never left the front.

 

Chamran wrote numerous articles on political, tactical and ideological topics. Most of them were published without any author listed. In his own opinion, his ideological and intellectual activities were more important than his scientific, political or guerrilla activities.

 

He was martyred during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war on June 21, 1981 by a bomb fragment in the village of Dehlavieh.
