Iranian lawmaker says terrorism threatens entire world

TEHRAN - Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said on Monday that terrorism is a threat against all countries’ security and stability, especially the Europeans.
During a meeting with Belgian Federal Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Dirk van der Maelen in Tehran, Boroujerdi called terrorism an “extra regional” and “international” threat.
He also said Western countries unfortunately adopt double standards on issues related to the Middle East region.
For example, he said, Iran is being “accused of violating human rights while the Western countries’ allies in the region bombard residential areas and defenseless people in Yemen and kill civilians.”
Boroujerdi added, “The West’s policy in strengthening the terrorist groups to achieve political objectives in the region is a dangerous game which is detrimental to the international community.”
The top MP also said it is essentially important to settle the crisis in Syria through dialogue among the conflicting Syrian sides.
Elsewhere, Boroujerdi said that Iran welcomes expansion of relations with Belgium in various areas.
For his part, Van der Maelen expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would be expanded.
The Belgian MP also said that the European youths’ inclination towards joining Daesh has created a “deep concern” in Europe.
