Zahedan-Khash railroad inaugurated

TEHRAN –The Zahedan-Khash Railroad was officially inaugurated on Thursday in a ceremony attended by senior officials including First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (known as RAI) Miad Salehi, and the governor-general of Sistan-Baluchestan Province, the portal of Transport and Urban Development Ministry reported.
The 154-kilometer railway is the first section of the Chahbahar-Zahedan railroad in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, which is itself part of a larger network of railways that form new strategic corridors in eastern Iran.
Heading to Sarakhs from the ocean port of Chabahar, the Chabahar-Zahedan rail route links Iran and South Asia to the Central Asian and northern countries.
The Islamic Republic has been taking new measures for completing the country’s railway network, especially along the International North-South Transit Corridor (INSTC) and the East-West corridor, in order to link the network with the above-mentioned countries.
Back in March, Head of Iran’s Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC) Kheirollah Khademi said the Zahedan-Chabahar railway project is going to be completed by the end of the Iranian calendar year 1402 (March 20, 2024).
