TEHRAN Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamidreza Assefi here Tuesday categorically rejected the recent U.S. Congress' bill on payment of claims to U.S. citizens from sources proposed in the bill.
He also said that the U.S. government is directly responsible for actions taken against assets of the Iranian government's or people in the U.S..
Assefi added that the bill further restrict judicial and executive immunity of the foreign countries.
He stated that the baseless accusations against Iran are meant to destroy the image of the country and propagating specific political aims.
Assefi said the laws and regulations ratified with the purpose of carrying out financial claims against Iran, or expropriation or seizure of Iranian assets, not only indicates the total ambivalence on the part of the U.S. government vis-a-vie basic international laws including, the immunity of governments, it also contravenes the U.S. governments' international obligations delineated in bilateral agreements.
He reiterated that the bill is formulated on baseless charges of terrorism leveled against Iran, adding, The claims brought against Iran in the U.S. courts based on the bill, refer to the incidents, that have occurred outside U.S. borders and have nothing to do with Iran.'' (IRNA)
