Iran rejects Western-backed UN mandates as ‘human rights weaponization’ for political gain
TEHRAN – Iran has formally rejected a resolution adopted in the 39th Special Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Saturday, denouncing the move as a “blatantly politicized action.”
Ali Bahreini, Tehran’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, issued a sharp rebuke, stating the session and its mandates are “entirely lacking any sincere concern for human rights” and serve as a tool for the interventionist agendas of Western powers.
Bahreini described the session as an “illegal” act of “covert aggression” aimed at producing “distorted narratives and false accusations.”
A powerful coalition representing over half the global population—including China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Cuba, Vietnam, and Iraq—opposed the measure, citing the selective behavior of the council.
While Tehran maintains its citizens have the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, officials note that recent unrest was systematically hijacked by provocateurs and terrorists backed by the U.S. and Israel, leading to the death of over 3000.
These elements, according to Iranian security bodies, transformed protests into a wave of organized violence and terrorist attacks, including the use of lethal weapons against security forces and the destruction of critical infrastructure.
During the session, UN High Commissioner Volker Türk and Sara Hossain propagated what Tehran considers unverified claims, recycling inflated casualty figures to demand a moratorium on the death penalty.
The Russian Federation voiced support for Tehran, warning that the session was an attempt by “Iran’s opponents” to destabilize a sovereign state.
Moscow’s representative highlighted the irony of Western nations accusing Tehran of “excessive violence” while they simultaneously incite “looting and bloodshed.”
The Russian envoy noted that Moscow possesses “documented facts” of agitators murdering security forces and attacking medical facilities, calling the Western resolution a “gross violation of the principles of the UN Charter.”
The Pakistani delegate specifically questioned the body’s silence regarding the destruction of state institutions in Iran, urging a move away from political bias.
This discourse has laid bare a profound Western double standard, exposing “human rights” as a mere geopolitical weapon.
While Washington spearheads resolutions against Tehran, many consider it a leading accomplice in the Gaza genocide, providing the funding and high-tech weaponry used to slaughter over 71,500 Palestinians.
Domestic hypocrisy further erodes Western credibility. At the hour of the UN session, U.S. authorities were intensifying a brutal crackdown on their own soil.
In Minneapolis, federal agents utilized “severe force,” including tear gas and flash-bangs, to suppress anti-ICE protesters following the killing of a civilian by federal officers.
