Armstrong Leads Magic Past 76ers in Double OT

PHILADELPHIA Darrell Armstrong scored 13 of his 34 points in the second overtime while holding Allen Iverson to one meaningless basket as the Orlando Magic fought off the Philadelphia 76ers 123-117.

Armstrong scored a career high, making 11-of-21 shots. He added eight rebounds and 13 assists without a turnover as he ran Orlando's pick-and-roll offense to perfection.

The speedy point guard had some trouble at times with the ultra-quick Iverson, who scored 47 points, eclipsing 40 for the ninth time this season. But Iverson needed 35 shots to do it and went scoreless for eight minutes in the extra sessions.

"I felt I made his shots a little tougher to make. I kept my hand up," Armstrong said. "It just wasn't me, it was my teammates. We had guys running at him and stepping in when he beat me."

"I thought the key was to keep him in front and challenge his jump shots," Magic Coach Doc Rivers said. "If Iverson is not making his jump shots, he's going to take it to the basket.

"Darrell did a nice job of staying in front. Darrell is a gambler, and one of the things I begged him not to do is gamble. If you gamble on Iverson, you're going to lose. Darrell did a nice job of staying solid defensively."

Tracy McGrady scored 25 points and rookie Mike Miller added a season-high 24 for the Magic, who beat the NBA-leading 76ers (35-12) for the first time in five meetings.

Orlando has won five of its last seven games.

Theo Ratliff had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Tyrone Hill added 15 and 10 for the Sixers, who fell to 14-7 at home and 2-3 in overtime. Philadelphia lost to an Atlantic division foe for just the second time this season.
