NEW DELHI Head of the Joint Irano-Indian Commerce and Friendship Bureau said here Saturday at a seminar that Iran's Islamic Revolution strengthened the oppressed and deprived masses around the globe.

Speaking at the seminar to survey Iran and India's relations, Abbas Mousavi said that the late Imam Khomeini's heart beat for the oppressed around the globe.

Professor M.S. Vassim, head of the Faculty of Commerce at the Islamic University of Aligarh presented an article on the history of the commercial relations between the two nations.

He said that currently 2 percent of Iran's annual exports are shipped to India, and 1.8 percent of India's exports to Iran.

Muzaffar A'lam, a history professor at Jawahirlal Nehru University expressed surprise that when talking about the relations between Iran and India, the speakers merely talk on political, cultural and literary ties of the two nations.

Muzaffar, who was the last speaker at the one-day conference, proposed that the two great nations' economic, and other ties, too, should be studied and upgraded.

The one-day seminar was sponsored by Iran's Culture House in New Delhi to mark the 22nd anniversary of victory of the Islamic Revolution.
