TIRANA Albanian Transport Minister Sokol Nako handed in his resignation Friday after causing a road accident which killed a 20-year-old woman, the government said in a statement. Nako's four-wheel-drive vehicle hit the young woman Thursday as she was crossing the road in Maminas, 25 kilometers (15 miles) west of Tirana, according to a police report. Nako drove her straight to Tirana hospital but she died there shortly afterward, the report said, cited by Reuters. "I am handing in my resignation to allow the legal authorities to carry out a fair and impartial inquiry," Nako said in a letter to Prime Minister Ilir Meta. Nako, aged 30, was appointed transport minister last July.
