KUWAIT Iran's Envoy to Kuwait Ali Jannati said on Wednesday Iran would hold a cultural week in Kuwait on the occasion of Kuwait's election as the cultural capital of the Arab countries and Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations. Jannati told reporters that exhibition of paintings and the initiative arts as well as poem nights and music concerts would be organized during the event in Kuwait. Fifty musicians would play Iranian and Kuwaiti music during the Cultural Week in Kuwait. According to IRNA, the cultural ties between Iran and Kuwait have been improving during recent years, Jannati said adding that Iran attaches great importance to expansion of cultural cooperation with Kuwait, elected cultural capital in 2001. He said the historical and religious commonalties of both nations had contributed to the Iran-Kuwait bilateral ties, the envoy said. During the event, achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran in various fields would be presented such as books, press, radio and TV, cinema, theater and music as well as other artistic fields. In addition to good cultural ties, the relations between Iran and Kuwait have been improving in other fields and the two states are interested to expand the bilateral cooperation in the field of commerce and trade. On April 26, Kuwait's Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry and of Labor and Social Affairs Badr al-Abdullah, announced his country's readiness for expansion of commercial and business cooperation with Iran. Speaking to IRNA, Al-Abdullah said that the commercial ties between Iran and Kuwait are historic and deep-rooted and therefore their level should be higher than the current extent. The Kuwaiti official emphasized that the level of cooperation among the two nations needs to be increased in many respects, particularly in the field of mutual investments. Al-Abdullah said that the quality of Iranian goods presented at Kuwait's Eighth International Trade Fair is fine, adding, "This year we are witness to presentation of a part of Iran's light and semi-heavy industrial capabilities at this exhibition." Also taking to IRNA reporter was Iran's Ambassador to Kuwait Ali Jannati who said the level of Iran and Kuwait's business transactions has always showed an increasing trend during the past three years, reaching over $100 million, from the previous $70 million. Jannati said that despite the presence of various European and African companies as well as many Arab countries at this year's trade fair, Iran's presence is quite eye-catching and a hall is fully allocated to presentation of Iranian goods. He said that this active presence provides a good chance for boosting the two countries' trade relations.
