TEHRAN The Interior Ministry issued a statement on Monday announcing that Morteza Alviri is still the Mayor of Tehran.

The Interior Ministry issued the statement in response to some news reports in the press and other media in which it was claimed that Alviri had been dismissed by the Tehran City Council.

The statement said that the procedures for the dismissal of a mayor are mentioned in the law of the Islamic councils, and as none of the procedures have been carried out, Morteza Alviri is still the Mayor of Tehran.

The statement said that the members of the Tehran City Council should observe all relevant laws and regulations in carrying out their official duties.

In the same respect, the Interior Ministry asked the members of the Tehran City Council, municipal officials, and the media to refrain from presenting opinions that may lead to violations in the process of city management and providing services to the citizens.
