Part 16

Like other martial arts, aikido has step-by-step gradings that are classified into two main categories of "Kyo Grading" and "Dan Grading".

Kyo Grading is a level of expertise in martial aikido that a trainee is granted gradually. Kyo 6 is the first grading for a beginner while Kyo 1 is the last step of level for an amateur learner.

Dan Grading is a level of mastership for a professional aikido player, whose belt's color changes in different dans. Dan 1 is the first grading and dan 8 is regarded as the last step, which is indicated by a black belt.

In Australia and the U.S., these two gradings are divided into under-16 and senior martial art players. The junior aikido learners should pass the courses of 9 levels, receiving belts of different colors.

Due to the vulnerability of their bones, the young adults are not allowed to do the exercises of twisting techniques.
