PARIS A solo recital of a few pieces of classical Persian music were played Monday night at Paris headquarters of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The internationally renowned Iranian Tar master Darioush Pirniakan played the pieces during a ceremony sponsored by the permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran at UNESCO.

The guests at the recital included Iranian and French Persian music enthusiasts, a number of French musicians and political authorities and a large number of UNESCO personnel and managers.

Pirnaiakan is currently a music professor at the Faculty of Music of Tehran University, the Arts University of Iran, and the Center for Promotion and Expansion of Classical Persian Music.

He has so far in several occasions recited classical pieces of Persian music along with other great masters of this art, such as master Mohammad-Reza Shajarian.

Master Darioush Pirnaiakan is a member of the board of directors of Iran's Music House, a member of the Supreme Music Council of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and a member of the Experts Council in Charge of Preserving and Expansion of the Classical Persian Music.
