NEISHABOUR -- Those who seek negotiations with the United States are naive, because they do not realize the consequences of such talks with the archfoe, which has accused Iran as part of an `axis of evil', an Iranian cleric has said.

Hassan A'lami, a representative from the northeastern Khorasan Province in the Experts Assembly which is tasked with appointing the Leader of the Islamic Republic, said here Tuesday that such talks were out of question given Washington's bellicose stance.

"Americans have always been acting against Iran and have shown their hostility against the Islamic Republic in all international forums," he stated.

A'lami said that talks with America will not solve Iran's economic and political problems, rather, they will exacerbate the Islamic Republic's situation, IRNA reported.

"If Americans act like other developed and Third World Countries, which seek to settle their problems through dialogue and mutual respect, our Islamic nation and government would like to talk to them, but Americans do not like this," he added.

The cleric said that talks with the U.S. meant submission to the American will and this is not in our interests.

Washington has propped up its pressures against the Islamic Republic, with George W. Bush branding Iran as part of an "axis of evil" along with Iraq and North Korea.
