BERLIN -- A plane safety study, conducted by the online site of the weekly*** Focus****, here Saturday warned of Iran Air's aging fleet but also pointed out that Iran's national carrier did not experience any disasters on its foreign flight routes over the past 12 years, IRNA reported.
The study, analyzing some 99 domestic and foreign airlines, also referred to Iran's efforts to modernize its fleet.
The report cited the United States trade embargo, barring the sale of aircraft or its parts to Iran, as one of the reasons for Iran's old aviation fleet.
Iran has signed a 500million-dollar deal with Europe's airbus to modernize its national airline which includes the purchase of 10 new passenger planes.
Most of Iran Air's fleet consists of U.S.-made Boeings, bought before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
