Protests Continue Against Aghajari's Remarks

TEHRAN -- Wide protests are still continuing against recent blasphemous remarks by Hashem Aghajari, a member of the Islamic Revolution Mujahedin Organization (IRMO), across the country, the Iranian news agencies reported.

These protest came mainly from Friday prayer leaders throughout the country.

For example, while detesting Aghajari's insulting remarks against religion and clergy the Qom Friday Prayer Leader Ayatollah Ali Meshkini advised the Judiciary officials to punish serverely those who insult Islam and the clergies.

Ayatollah Meshkini strongly rejected the statements by Aghajari who had said there is nothing as spirituality in Islam. Stressing the importance of the clergies in society the ayatollah cited an example from the holy Prophet (S), the ayatollah said the and said the Prophet says: Ulema of my followers are like the prophets of Israelite.

The Qom Friday prayer leader also thanked the Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karrubi for blasting Aghajari's remarks.
