VAL GARDENA, Italy -- Switzerland's Didier Defago confirmed recent promise by winning the men's super-G race here Friday to claim his first ever World Cup victory.

The 25-year-old Swiss, who finished second in Kvitfjell (Norway) last season and recently finished fourth in Beaver Creek, clocked one minute 38.11 seconds to beat Austrian Hannes Reichelt and Marco Buchel of Liechtenstein.

Reichelt, 22, finished 0.11 secs behind with Buchel third at 0.38, Reuters reported.
