Tajik President Leaves Tehran

TEHRAN -- Tajikistan's President Imomali Rakhmonov, who arrived in Tehran on Monday on a three-day visit, left for the Tajik capital Dushanbe on Wednesday, IRNA reported.

During his visit to Tehran, President Rakhmonov conferred with the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, President Khatami and a number of high-ranking Iranian state officials.

He also attended a joint meeting with the presidents of Iran, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

Rakhmonov inked three agreements on mutual political and economic cooperation on the first day of his arrival in Tehran.

According to the joint statement signed by President Khatami and President Rakhmonov on Monday, both sides underlined the need for raising the level of mutual ties in various fields.

The joint statement also stressed the need to launch serious joint anti-drug and anti-terrorism campaign and to tackle organized crimes.

During his visit to Tehran, President Rakhmonov was accompanied by Tajik ministers of foreign affairs, economy and trade as well as road and energy.

President Khatami and Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi visited Tajikistan on April 30, 2002 and March 3, 2003 respectively.
