TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) –- The 500th anniversary of Chaldiran Epic is to be held on September 26 in Seyed Nasreddin Mausoleum in Sedan Village, Chaldiran, West Azarbaijan.

Seyed Sadreddin, chancellor of Shah Esmaeil Safavi was martyred in a battle with the army of Sultan Salim, king of Ottoman in 1514 C.E., and was buried in Chaldiran.

The renovation project of the hexangular mausoleum has begun since 1993.

Considering the form and plan, the building is a new model of mausoleum in Islamic era. Since the forms of the mausoleums built in Islamic era are either square-shaped or octagonal, the building enjoys a novel plan. The mausoleum is void of any particular decoration.

Chadliran epic narrates the war between Iran and Ottoman Empire in which the army of Shah Esmaeil met with Sultan Salim’s forces in Chaldiran. A great number of Iranian forces as well as chancellor Sadreddin were killed and many were captured.

Although Iran was defeated in the war, the devotion and bravery of the forces helped to form the Shia’ National Government in Iran.
