Khatami Tells Researchers to Strive to Make Scientific Breakthroughs
Khatami made the remarks in meeting with the members of the Royan Research Center on Saturday.
Khatami said that, given Iranians’ talent and potential, Iran should try to become a world center for production of high-tech products. He also praised the significant success of the Royan Research Center in developing the technology to freeze stem cells.
Expressing satisfaction with developments in the field of nanotechnology, he said the government plans to allocate a significant amount of money in the next national budget bill to help promote the country’s scientific development.
He called on all medical centers and universities to fully cooperate and support the development and use of nanotechnology.
Prior to Khatami’s remarks, the researchers attending the meeting described Iranian scientists’ success in freezing stem cells as a revolution in medical technology which only ten countries possess.
Dr. Kazemi, the chairman of the Royan institute, which is a non-governmental organization, said the institute is active in the fields of education and research and in treatment of reproductive problems.
Dr. Kazemi also said that the main activities of the center revolve around research into the production of neuron and cardiac cells, and the value of these services could reach millions of dollars.
