The death of seven members of the Spanish intelligence agency in Iraq has had a large impact in Spain. Many members of the Spanish government have called for the resignation of the Spanish defense minister and the director of the Spanish intelligence agency has asked Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar to explain the matter in parliament. United Left (IU) party leader Gaspar Llamazares has accused the Spanish prime minister of lying and trying to mislead the public. He said, “Jose Maria Aznar formerly stated that the Spanish troops would be sent to Iraq for humanitarian causes, but it is still not clear what their mission was (in Iraq).”
