QAZVIN (IRNA) -- Former President and Head of the International Center for Dialogue among Civilizations Mohammad Khatami said here on Monday, "People are the main factor in developments that take shape based on the people's awareness."

Speaking at a commemoration service to pay homage to the late son of Imam Khomeini, Seyyed Ahmad, on his demise anniversary, Khatami added, "Real developments in societies are based on people's awareness and that was the reason why the people had a vast presence in the course of the Islamic Revolution of Iran."

Referring to the deep insight of Imam Khomeini (PBUH) about the Iranian society, Khatami reiterated, "The late Imam managed to lead the revolution to victory relying on his correct understanding of the social conditions of the day and the factors that could have influence on the process of the revolution."

Pointing out that "The late Imam (PBUH) was the architect of the path of developments and the main axis for them, Khatami stressed, "Those who do not believe in the authenticity of the people's votes have no legitimate right to rule over them, either."

The former Iranian president elsewhere in his remarks referred to the role played by Imam Khomeini's late son Seyyed Ahmad in the course of the Islamic Revolution, adding, "He was the most trusted advisor of the founder of the Islamic Republic."
