TEHRAN – The Secretary General of the National Confidence Party Mahdi Karrubi said on Saturday that the nation forms the cornerstone of the Islamic Republic’s power.

“The nation is the main power of the Islamic Republic of Iran and with such a nation it doesn’t need an atomic bomb,” Karrubi told the Mehr News Agency on the sidelines of the Third International Conference on Qods and Support for the Rights of Palestinian People.

The former Majlis speaker said that mastering the nuclear fuel cycle dose not mean following a policy of war or domination over others.

Karrubi said that Iran seeks a logical and reasonable policy in its ties with other countries and believes it can realize its goals through diplomacy.

The Islamic republic considers negotiation as the best way to develop ties with the outside world, he said.

The party secretary general also added that Iran should continue its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and with countries like China and Russia.
