RIYADH (IRNA) -- The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) is sending a special representative to Iran to hold talks on the country's nuclear case, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said.

The Saudi press on Thursday quoted Al-Faisal, who is currently in the United States, as saying that Oman's foreign minister will be the PGCC's special envoy and will depart for Tehran within the next few days.

Al-Faisal, who expressed hope Iran's nuclear case will be resolved peacefully, remarked that it was very difficult to ask countries in the Middle East to suspend their nuclear activities when a country in the region has nuclear weapons.

The PGCC groups the six states of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain. It was officially established in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, in May 27, 1981.

The council's permanent secretariat is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
