KUALA LUMPUR (IRNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said on Monday that participation of Iraq's neighbors, as well as regional countries, is necessary in order to strengthen security and stability there. Mottaki made the comment in a meeting with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa in Malaysia's political capital, Putrajaya, while briefing the AL Chief about the outcome of his recent visit of Iraq, and his talks with Iraqi officials, which he evaluated as "positive." He added, "We believe any type of collective measure would be a step forward towards achieving security in Iraq."

The Arab League Secretary General, too, during the meeting referred to the international and, particularly Middle East developments, considering relations and consultation among regional countries as "of great significance" under the current conditions. Announcing Arab League's full support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program, Moussa said, "Iran's nuclear program is completely in accordance with the international rules and regulations, and the problem in that respect can be solved through holding dialogue within the IAEA."

Mottaki and Amr Moussa during the meeting emphasized the need for maintaining continuous contacts and consultations under the prevailing regional and international conditions.

Belarus backs Iran in nuclear standoff

In a separate meeting between Belarussian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov and Mottaki, Martynov reiterated his country's stance on Iran's right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes within the framework of International Atomic Energy Agency rules and regulations and the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The two sides called for activation of the Iran-Belarus Joint Economic Commission, noting an earlier call of their presidents in this regard.

Mottaki praised Belarus for backing up Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.

He also extended an invitation to the Belarussian foreign minister to pay a visit to Iran which Martynov accepted.

Iran, Algeria FMs stress expansion of ties

The foreign ministers of Iran and Algeria on Tuesday also called for bolstering of bilateral relations in trade and other economic fields given their enormous joint potentials.

Mottaki met with his Algerian counterpart Mohamed Bedjaoui, on the sidelines of the foreign ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Putrajaya.

The two sides praised the current level of political ties between Tehran and Algiers, and said deep-rooted ties and commonalties between the two countries highlight the significance of their expanding economic relations.

Bedjaoui said the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be among participants at an upcoming summit of member states of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) slated to be held in Gambia in August, and called for preparations to be made for a meeting between the Iranian president and his Algerian counterpart, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to be held on the sidelines of the summit.

Iran's N-case should be settled within IAEA regulations: Indian FM

Indian Foreign Minister Anand Sharma said Iran's nuclear case should be settled according to the existing conventions and in the framework of IAE regulations.

In a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister, Sharma pointed out that India pursues its own national interest on which it establishes relations with other countries and is never influenced by others in this concern.

He expressed his country's interests to develop ties with Iran especially in the field of energy. Mottaki also evaluated bilateral relations with India 'expanding.'

He added, in the new age, the traditional and good relations between Iran and India should enter into a new phase.
