TEHRAN -- Jafar Panahi’s “Offside” and Abolfazl Jalili’s “Full or Empty” fetched Iran two prestigious awards of the 27th Durban International Film Festival (June 14-25) in east of South Africa.

“Full or Empty” won the best film award and “Offside” grabbed the best screenplay award.

“Full or Empty” is screened soon, but the date of the public premiere of “Offside” has yet to be set and there is a possibility that it will never hit the silver screen.

“Offside” is about six Iranian girls, who disguise themselves as boys to enter Tehran’s Azadi Stadium and watch the 2006 World Cup Asian zone qualifier between Iran and Bahrain, but they are arrested one by one.

Jalili has presented his loneliest hero in “Full or Empty”. Navid is a young man, who travels to a coastal town to work as a teacher, but faces several problems.

He then begins a struggle against the administrative obstacles, which turns into a black comedy.

Majid Majidi’s “The Weeping Willow”, Mohammad Rasulof’s “Iron Island”, Mohammad Ahmadi’s “Poet of the Wastes”, and Kambuzia Partovi’s “Border Café” were the other Iranian entries to the competition section of the festival.
