Iran’s pottery biennial links past to present: secretary

TEHRAN -- The secretary of the 8th Iranian Pottery, Ceramics, and Glassware Biennial said here on Monday the event aims to support traditional and modern potters.

The event features a collection of 574 artworks at the Saba Art and Culture Complex, Maryam Salur added.

Salur elaborated on a collection of her own works entitled “Corn Poppies of the Lar Valley” which are on display at the front of the show hall. “Last spring I went to the Lar Valley (near Tehran) where I witnessed wonderful corn poppies. I immediately decided to depict them in my works.”

Among the items there are glazed pottery works entitled “A Memorial of Khayyam” and “Garden on a Brick” created by Omid Qajarian.

Other participants include Abbas Akbar, Jila Kamyab, Mehri Honarbin-Halidi, Rezvan Mas’aledan, Hamid Nazemian, and Farzad Faraji.

Mohammad Shamkhani has presented his artworks in a 12-minute video art on the second floor.

A total of 243 artists have contributed to the biennial which runs until Jan. 24 at the venue.
