TEHRAN -- The Mexican government has invited Iranian photographer Jamshid Bairami to take some shots of Mexican rituals and ceremonies for the Aztec New Year in late March.

“I plan to travel to Mexico to photograph the worship of the Mexicans for their new year. They have special rituals and prayers for their new year, which is concurrent with Iranian Noruz (celebration for Iranian New Year beginning from March 21),” said Bairami.

Over the past few years, Bairami has focused on religious themes for his works.

In December, the Mexican Embassy in Tehran organized an exhibition displaying 50 of his works on the themes of hajj, namaz (Muslim prayer), and Muharram.

Bairami was to be awarded the Mexican government’s merit badge for highlighting the subject of prayer in his works during the opening ceremony, but this was postponed to a later date because he had a heart attack and was hospitalized shortly before the event.

The exhibition is scheduled to be transferred to Mexico City during Bairami’s sojourn in the country.

His works on Mexican rituals and the ceremonies for the Aztec New Year are also to be exhibited at the Mexican Embassy in Tehran after his return.
