TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini on Saturday welcomed a Hamas-Fatah deal in the Mecca meeting for formation of a national unity government, calling it a 'constructive move' within the framework of a goal for consolidation of unity among Palestinians.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes any move that contributes to unity among Palestinians, considering it a step in line with interests of the Palestinian nation and Muslim Ummah," said Hosseini on Saturday.

Thanking all the Palestinian parties and Saudi government for contribution to the deal, Hosseini said the wise and resistant Palestinian nation knows pretty well that the main cause of tension and insecurity is the measures and approaches of the occupier enemy, the Zionist regime of Israel.

"We are happy that provisions of the recent deal are in line with settlement of domestic problems and elimination of internal crisis and that the deal is mainly directed towards foiling conspiracies resulting from the U.S. and Zionist regime's interference," said Hosseini.

He said the Islamic Republic of Iran is hopeful that a series of responsible measures, adopted by different Palestinian parties as well as Muslim and Arab states, would pave the ground for unity, materialization of lofty aspirations and ideals of the great and devoted Palestinian nation and liberation of dear Palestine.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the only way of campaign against aggressions and conspiracies of the Zionist enemy is unity and cohesion among all the resistant Palestinian groups and Muslim states.

He added that Zionist regime's recent threats and insults to al- Aqsa Mosque necessitate adoption of speedy measures and moves so as to foil attempts aimed at ruining Islamic sites in Qods.
