TEHRAN (FNA) -- Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faysal is due to pay a visit to Tehran in the near future to discuss Lebanese issue with Iranian officials, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said.

Speaking to FNA here on Monday, Hosseini said that in a meeting in Morocco the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Mohammad Reza Bagheri had conveyed a message in writing to the Saudi officials.

He said that the letter pertained to the maltreatment of the Iranian pilgrims by the Saudi police.

"Saudi officials have also expressed regret over the self-centered measures adopted by their agents, and stressed that their actions contradicted the intention and aspirations of the Saudi government for treating pilgrims, specially Iranian pilgrims, with respect and good temper," Hosseini added.

He also said that the Saudi officials had underlined serious follow-up on the issue.

The spokesman further pointed out that the Iranian deputy foreign minister had also attended a separate meeting with the Saudi foreign minister to discuss bilateral ties, and regional issues, including Lebanon.

"During the meeting, the two sides discussed the two countries' previous talks and exchange of views about Lebanon and stressed continued consultations on the issue in a bid to assist the Lebanese people with finding a Lebanese solution," he said.

"Also during the meeting, the two sides decided to continue talks and consultations during an upcoming visit to Tehran by Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faysal," Hosseini continued.

Some media had earlier reported that Bagheri and Saud al-Faysal had met at the Saudi embassy in Rabat, Morocco and that the Iranian deputy foreign minister had conveyed a message from Tehran for the Saudi King about the settlement of Lebanon's crisis.
