Iran and U.S.hold frank and serious talks on Iraq

BAGHDAD (IRNA) -- The third round of Iran-U.S. talks on Iraq security was held in a frank and serious atmosphere, the head of Iranian expert team Amir Abdollahian said on Monday.
He told reporters at Iranian Embassy in Baghdad that the experts meeting studied the root-causes of terrorism and insecurity in Iraq.Abdollahian said that the meeting focused on ways to establish peace and stability in Iraq and support for the Iraqi nation and government.
“Iranian team reminded the U.S. team that there is no good or bad terrorism and it is not something to deal with it selectively,” he said.
“We required the U.S. party to go ahead with international campaign against all forms of terrorism in light of the United Nations Resolutions including the Resolution 1373.”
Abdollahian said that Iranian negotiators conveyed Iranian concern about the growth of terrorism explaining the reasons for the growth which Iran believes it emanated from the U.S. ambiguous and skeptical approach in dealing with terrorism citing the U.S. ignoring of certain saboteurs and terrorist groups.
He said that the U.S. expert team, headed by Embassy's senior diplomat Ms. Marcie Ries, could not give acceptable reasons for the U.S. security approach in Iraq.
The Iranian diplomat said that the occupiers' wrong policies have developed insecurity in Iraq.
He said that the U.S. negotiators asked for Iranian assistance to get out of the current security challenge in Iraq.
On the views of the Iraqi officials, Abdollahian said that the Iraqi officials sought assistance from both Iran and the U.S. to restore stability in the country.
He said that the Iraqi officials believes that the Iran-U.S. talks on Iraq would be effective for restoring stability in the country.
“We agreed to hold the next round of talks as per an invitation from the Baghdad government,” Abdollahian said.
He did not give any time for the next talks.
In the second round of talks on July 24, Iranian Ambassador Hassan Kazemi Qomi and U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker had agreed to form a joint security committee and the experts studied dimensions of its composition for more than two-and-a-half hours on Monday.
Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Kamal and several Iraqi experts attended the third round of Iran-U.S. talks.
Meanwhile, Kazemi Qomi and Crocker held a short meeting on the sidelines of the third round of talks to review the process of negotiations
