Karrubi says will not run for parliamentary elections

TEHRAN -- Former Majlis speaker Mehdi Karrubi here on Saturday said that he is not going to run for the 2008 parliamentary elections.

In a meeting with the members of the youth branch of the National Confidence Party, Karrubi said that “we should all work together” to develop the culture of working within a party in the society and advised the youth to openly make comments and criticisms in order to achieve the desired goals.
Karrubi established the National Confidence Party after he failed to win the 2005 presidential elections.
Commenting on the role of women in social and political spheres, he said, “We urge a continued and serious presence of women in political affairs.
