TOKYO (Reuters) -- Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) and domestic rival All Nippon Airways (ANA) said they were among several airlines charged by the European Commission with price fixing on freight services.
The European Commission, which is the 27-nation European Union's top antitrust watchdog, said it had sent official charge sheets, known as statements of objections, to several air freight companies. It did not name the companies but British Airways, Germany's Lufthansa, Scandinavian airline SAS, and Air France KLM have also said they are among the airlines affected.
JAL said in a statement late on Friday the Commission had investigated its Frankfurt cargo and mail office in February 2006. ANA said on Saturday it had been asked for cargo-related information in December last year and was cooperating fully with the probe.
Both companies said they were reviewing the statements of objections carefully.
Companies typically have two months to respond to a statement of objections.
