TEHRAN -- The Vienna-based ambassadors of member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference have decided to send a protest note to Austrian President Heinz Fischer over a politician’s insulting remarks about Prophet Muhammad (S).

Susanne Winter, a right-wing politician with the Freedom Party of Austria running for a city council seat in the city of Graz, blasted Muslims and Prophet Muhammad (S), Spiegel Online reported.
Her comments have resulted in a storm of protest in Austria, with politicians and commentators of all stripes taking Winter and her party to task. Austrian prosecutors are also looking into the possibility of filing charges against the 50-year-old politician for incitement.
Since a UN General Assembly resolution and the Austrian Constitution prohibit insulting Islam, which is an officially recognized religion in Austria, the OIC should urge the Austrian government to treat the followers of all religions equally, the ambassadors said.
The diplomats also proposed that OIC member countries should impose a travel ban on people who insult Prophet Muhammad (S), saying, “Such remarks are a major impediment to international efforts to promote dialogue among civilizations and religions.
