TEHRAN –- The floodgates of the Karun 4 Dam are scheduled to be closed in 2009, the managing director of the Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company (IWPRDC) announced here on Tuesday.

It will be Iran’s tallest concrete dam at 230 meters when it is completed, Abbas Aliabadi said, adding that it has already reached a height of 106 meters.
Fifty-five percent of the equipment for the Karun 4 Dam’s 1000 MW power plant has been installed so far, and the project is now 50 percent complete, he noted.
The dam’s hydropower plant will generate 2,100 gigawatts of electricity annually, and the dam will also help to control seasonal flooding, he explained.
The hydroelectric dam is being built on the Karun River in the central province of Chaharmahal-o-Bakhtiari, 180 kilometers southwest of Shahr-e Kord
