TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Friday prayers leader of Tehran Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami here on Friday called for avoiding hue and cry in a month to the 8th Majlis elections.

""Undoubtedly, blurring the elections atmosphere will be a treason to the public,"" said Ayatollah Khatami in his second sermon to large groups of worshipers at Tehran University campus.
He called on those disqualified to run for the elections to refer only to the Guardian Council to raise protest for rejection of their candidacy bid.
The Experts Assembly member called on the Guardian Council to be careful in investigating competency of the individuals so that their rights are not violated unjustifiably.
He called for high public turnout in the elections, which he termed as ""a big political feast"" for the nation and the ""highly valuable gift"" of the Islamic Revolution.
He said what's of importance is extensive presence of the public in the process, no matter who wins.
""High public turnout in the scenes foiled many plots of the enemies of the system in the past and with God's grace the conspiracies will be ineffective in the future either,"" he added.
The cleric said efforts should be made to ensure the elections are sound, logical and healthy.
The 8th Majlis election and the by-election for the Experts Assembly in the constituencies of Tehran, Qazvin, Ilam and East Azarbaijan provinces will be held concurrently on March 14.
Elsewhere in his sermon, the Ayatollah pointed to the Winograde report on Israel's failure in the 33-day war on Lebanon.
The report has explicitly acknowledged to failure of the political and military objectives of the Zionist regime, he added.
Ayatollah Khatami noted, ""In the report, however, they skillfully tried to put the blame of war failure on government of the Zionist regime, acquitting the army and trying to show it is still powerful.""
He said, ""But the reality is the prime minister, government and army of the Regime failed in the 33-day war.""
He went on to say that the Zionist regime's brutal attack on Gaza was ""aftershock"" of the failure.
Ayatollah Khatami said, ""The Zionist regime should know that flames of Intifadha will not be extinguished by such brutal behavior and they should wait for a giant and crushing move and beginning of a new Intifadha which would bring misery to the Zionists.""
He said Zionists' merciless move practically cost them losing part of the occupied Palestine, turning into an independent part run by Palestinians themselves.
""The region is presently with the legal and popular government of Hamas. Hundreds of thousands of people in the region are armed and the Zionist regime will no longer be able to re-occupy the region,"" he announced.
Concluding his sermon, Ayatollah Khatami hoped that in the near future other occupied territories will be with their main owners, i.e. the oppressed Palestinian people, and the forged and occupying regime of Israel will be annihilated eventually.
