Iran's soccer federation says it will look for a homegrown coach after Javier Clemente rejected an offer to train the national team.

“We are going to consider other options for coach,” head of the federation, Ali Kafashian said Tuesday.
After a contradictory weeks-long saga over whether or not the Spaniard would agree to reside in Iran, Clemente refused any additions to his contract.

“Right now, there is a greater chance of appointing an Iranian coach rather than a foreign one,” Kafashian continued.

Although he refused to give any details on possible Iranian candidates, media pundits believe Afshin Qotbi and Ali Daei are the most likely choices.

Qotbi, who was Dutch wizard Guus Hiddink's technical assistant, is currently the coach of league leader Persepolis.

The 38-year-old Daei, who is without a doubt one of the most famous Iranian soccer players, presently coaches Tehran team Saipa.
