Iran calls Britain major NPT violator

TEHRAN – Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini on Friday criticized Britain for falsely accusing Iran of developing nuclear weapons even though it is itself a “major violator” of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Referring to the incentives offered by the Western powers in return for Iran suspending its uranium enrichment program, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband had earlier said, “It’s only there if Iran ceases to confront the international community in respect to its uranium enrichment program.”“Iran should know that it cannot set off an arms race in the Middle East which obviously has even more dangerous consequences for a region that already has too much violence,” Miliband added.
“These allegations are made at a time when Britain is making huge investments in developing a new generation of atomic weapons including the Trident system,” Hosseini insisted.
He condemned London for possessing hundreds of nuclear warheads and pursuing atomic deals with the United States.
London’s calls for the serious implementation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty comes at a time when it is itself violating NPT articles I, IV, and VI which commit all member states to nuclear disarmament and cooperation in peaceful nuclear activities, the spokesman stated.
Hosseini said, “With over 60 years of experience, Britain is a main supplier of material for nuclear arms to the regime occupying Qods, which is a major threat to global security.
