TEHRAN — During the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2008) about $2.1 billion has been allocated to thermal power plant construction, the Iran Power Development Company (IPDC) managing director said here on Thursday.

“From the beginning of current Iranian calendar year 7 power plant units with the total generation capacity of 1273 MW have been connected to the national electricity grid,” IRIB quoted Mohammad Behzad as saying.
“The third and fourth units of Ardebil’s Sabalan power plant, the fifth unit of Ferdowsi power plant, the fifth unit of Jahrom power plant, the third and fourth units of Assaluyeh power plant, and the second unit of Kerman combined cycle power plant are the 7 power plant units which have come on stream this year,” he explained.
“At least $3.8 billion to $4.2 billion is needed for implementing new power plants for generation of 3,000 MW to meet next summertime consumption peak,” Behzad added
