URMIA – The Urmia Lake floating bridge is a sign of Iranian experts’ ability to launch and complete complicated projects, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here on Monday during the bridge’s opening ceremony.
The bridge fulfils the “historical dream” of the people living to the east and west of the lake, who have long sought a shorter transport route, the president said, the Mehr News Agency reported. The president expressed appreciation to all the experts involved in the project for their efforts to eliminate all the obstacles in the path.
The administration has decided that the bridge should have two lanes for motor vehicles and one lane for trains to streamline regional traffic, he added.
Ahmadinejad noted that the project was only 25 percent complete when he took office.
He also said Iran should make full use of all its domestic capabilities
