Shiraz School Conference opens in Tehran

TEHRAN -- The Shiraz School Conference opened here at Tehran’s Aseman Art and Culture Center on Wednesday.
Over 200 Iranian and foreign scholars including Habibollah Ayatollahi, Bahman Namvar-Motlaq and Hojjatoleslam Qasem Kakaii are scheduled to address the conference during the 5-day event in Tehran and Shiraz, the Public Relations Office of the program reported on Wednesday.The Shiraz School Conference will have another opening session at the Hafez Hall of Shiraz on December 6 with a speech by the director of the Cultural Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel.
Professor Carl W. Ernst, director of the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations will be a keynote speaker at the conference in Shiraz.
Prof. Ernst is a specialist in Islamic studies, with a focus on West and South Asia. He is also one of the co-editors of the Islamic Civilization and Muslim Networks Series at the University of North Carolina Press.
Meanwhile, several other venues in Tehran will be hosting conferences related to the Shiraz School during the event.
“Calligraphy in the Shiraz School” will be reviewed at the Saba Art and Culture Institute, “Music and Literature in the Shiraz School” will be discussed at the Naqsh-e Jahan Center, and “Manuscripts in Shiraz School” will be reviewed at the Academy of Arts.
Tehran’s Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nader Mashayekhi and the Sepeher Band conducted by Majid Kiani will be giving performances at the Tehran-based programs.
