Islamic human rights charter superior to Universal Declaration of Human Rights: cleric

TEHRAN -- The chairman of the World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Ayatollah Mohammad-Ali Taskhiri, said here on Tuesday that the Islamic human rights declaration is superior to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Taskhiri made the remarks in an address at the one-day Seminar on the Human Rights Charter of the OIC: Challenges and Approaches.The seminar was hosted by Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization.
“The Islamic (human rights) declaration acknowledges the fact that there is a strong connection between philosophical and legal issues, and the legal approach can be formulated based on this world view.”
Islam is in harmony with whatever is compatible with human nature, he emphasized, adding, “Islam is the religion of human rights.
