ATHENS (AFP) -- Greece's left-wing Syriza party on Saturday condemned an attack on a Bulgarian unionist who was seriously injured when unknown assailants splashed acid on her face earlier this week.

""This tragic incident is directly linked with the terror exerted by employers on hired labor...particularly on women and migrants,"" Syriza lawmaker Evangelia Paschalidou-Amanatidou said in a statement.
The 44-year-old unionist Constantina Kouneva, the general secretary of Athens' association of cleaners, lost her sight in one eye and has been unconscious since the attack on Wednesday, Kathimerini daily said.
No arrests have been made over the attack which took place outside the unionist's home in the district of Petralona.
Kouneva had strongly opposed a recent pension system reform and had fought to improve working conditions for cleaners, the Syriza lawmaker said.
""Kouneva's militancy was troublesome and she was made a target by her company which tends to state clients such as the Athens electric railway and (Greece's main arms contractor) EVO,"" Paschalidou-Amanatidou said.
On Friday, a group of youths banged up a police car that was passing in front of an Athens hospital where Kouneva is being treated during a rally to protest the attack against her.
