TEHRAN -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Friday that Iran’s role in a crisis-prone region like the strategically important Persian Gulf region has always been based on “logic” and not “opportunism”.

Addressing a conference on Economic Crisis in the West, Challenges and Opportunities held in Kish Island, Mottaki said that his country has been pursuing a “rightful and pro-justice” policy in the Persian Gulf region over the past 30 years.
He went on to say that Iran is seeking serious talks with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) in line with its strategy to expand ties with regional countries.
Mottaki also said that Ahmadinejad’s proposals at Doha summit was welcomed by the heads of PGCC member states.
On December 3, 2007, President Ahmadinejad attended the 28th PGCC summit in Doha during which he submitted 12 proposals meant to “reinforce brotherly ties” and “promote cooperation” among Persian Gulf littoral states and Iran
