TEHRAN -- A series of letters written by Naser ad-Din Shah Qajar (1831-1896) on the political situation of Iran will soon be published by the Mahmud Afshar Foundation.
This is part of the collection which contains about 150 letters written by Naser ad-Din Shah.Scholar of Persian literature Iraj Afshar (Mahmud’s son) had donated a collection of rare documents including the letters to the central library of the University of Tehran many years ago to be published later.
Part of the collection was previously compiled by members of the foundation Bahram Ghaffari and Mohammad Esfahanian, and was published in five volumes.
There was a long delay of almost 25 years and now, other parts of this collection are also being published by the foundation.
Born in 1890, scholar Mahmud Afshar established a foundation in 1958 for the purpose of publishing books and theses to promote the Persian language. After his death in 1982, he had designated some of his properties in Tehran and Shemiran to be literary centers.
