Iran beats Oman in 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualifiers

DUBAI - Iran defeated Oman in the Asian qualifiers for the 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup on Sunday.

In the match held at the Umm Suqueim Beach in Jumeirah, Iran beat Oman 5-3 and qualified for the semifinal.
Iran, who has defeated Australia 3-1 in its opening matches, is scheduled to play China on Monday.
The seven participating teams have been divided into two groups: Group A with Japan, Bahrain and Uzbekistan and Group B with Iran, China, Oman and Australia, who has participated in the event with no prior experience of playing competitive matches.
The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals, and the finalists will be the Asian representatives at the 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup to be played at the same venue in Umm Suqeim.
This is only the second time that FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup has taken place outside Brazil, the country that has won the most titles in this sport. The 2009 World Cup will take place from 16 November until 22 November 2009 and 16 teams from 6 confederations will compete for the coveted title.
