TEHRAN -- Prominent Iranian painter Farah Osuli plans to create a series of 20 works based on paintings by Renaissance artists.
“Birth of Venus” and “The Creation of Adam” created by Italian Renaissance artists Sandro Botticelli and Michelangelo as well as “Roger Delivering Angelica” by French painter Auguste-Dominique Ingres will be the sources of inspiration for Osuli’s collection.Although Ingres lived during the 18th and 19th centuries, he was greatly influenced by the work of Italian Renaissance painter Raphael, and his style has been described as inspired by both Raphael and David.
“Taking inspiration from works of great artists is not unusual in the world, but is not common among artists in the East,” she told the Persian service of the Fars News Agency on Wednesday.
“However, I’m trying to draw inspiration from these artists to create a collection based on my own style as well as to partake of the feelings these artists had in the creation of their works,” she added.
She also plans to put the collection on display in a New York exhibit in 2010, but didn’t mention a precise date and venue for anticipated the event.
Some of Osuli’s works have been based on paintings by world-renowned artists that have been sold at Sotheby’s sales over the past two years.
